SEMS - Sustainable Energy Management System Project duration: 2007 - 2012

The project

  • SEMS is the abbreviation for „Sustainable Energy Management Systems“
  • Project is funded with 6.48 Mio. € by the European Concerto II Initiative within the 6th Framework Research Programme of the European Commission Redange
  • Main objectives of SEMS: „Ecological, economical and social benefits by integration of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency by application of several sustainable energy management tools on communal level“
  • Involved are 25 project partner (research institutions, public and communal bodies, private partner); Project-coordinator: IfaS/ Birkenfeld

Decentralised Energy Management System

  • Build-up of a decentralised energy management system within the core communities to optimise regional energy supply
  • Integration of existing electrical and thermal systems as well as renewable energy systems (RES) into a decentralised energy management system
  • Optimization of forecasts and schedules of load and generation units as well as storages based on long-term monitoring results (> 1 year)
  • Demonstration and analysis of possibilities of system optimization by monitoring
  • Proof of concepts of optimization of energy supply by decentralised energy management through demonstration and monitoring within the communities

  • Monitoring of RES generation, energy consumption, import, contracts within the community of Weilerbach using DEMS-software of Siemens
  • Comparison of day-ahead forecasted and real measured performance data using the data set of at least 1 year
  • Measurement data are transferred every minute via GPRS to database for archiving and processing
